Beautiful Words

To have enjoyed the sun,

To have lived light in the spring,

To have loved, to have thought, to have done;

To have advanced true friends,

And beat down baffling foes?”

A Farewell – Matthew Arnold

“Yes, there is a Nirvana;

it is in leading your sheep to a green pasture,

and in putting your child to sleep,

and in writing the last line of your poem.”

“I give myself to the elements, the sea, the sun,
My body is outstretched,  my eyes are closed,
The boat is gently rocking.
When I boarded this little boat
I never realised what this experience would mean,
I can feel God.”

It’s nearly Christmas again.  The years go by so quickly, a new year starts and, before we know it, it’s over and we’re welcoming in another year.  These are the poignant and beautiful words from the “Rubaiyat” of Omar Khayyam (translation by Edward Fitzgerald) about the passing of time:

 “The Bird of Time

has but a little way

To fly – and Lo! the Bird

is on the Wing.”
